Snow skiing on top of the world – and so much more

Beech Mountain Resort is a wonderful destination for family, friends, and couples. The atmosphere there is simply like no other and for a winter getaway, it’s especially appealing. The ski runs and trails are perfect for all levels and the snowboarding and tubing are great fun as well.
After your remarkable day is done, the fun just keeps going. You can sit by one of the many fire pits in the village and relax with hot chocolate from First Chair Coffee Shop, or perhaps a beer from Beech Mountain Brewing Company.
And don’t miss out on the best live music scene in the High Country, especially after a fun-filled day of skiing or snowboarding. If you’ve visited the resort before, 2022-2023 will be a great time to return and enjoy the new and improved facilities. There’s a new beginner slope with a carpet conveyor named Carolina Caribbean. There’s also a new quad lift, and the resort has replaced the double seat chairlift with a new Doppelmayr quad with a loading conveyor – called Latitude 90. All those improvements help you access the slopes more comfortably. Once you’re headed down, you’ll notice how beautifully their ten new SMI fanguns increase their snowmaking capacity. More snow? Yes, please!
Take a lesson if you’d like expert instructors for your little ones, or even a refresher or beginning ski class for yourself. It will help you improve your experience, for sure. The beginner park in the Meadows features new LED lights and fixed tower polecats – cool! There’s also Latitude 60, an all-weather snowmaker in the tubing area. Their rental equipment is topnotch and you’ll be expertly fitted before you hit the slopes.
Speaking of mountain top experiences, do not miss Mountain top 5506’ (so named because that’s its elevation, otherwise known as Very High!) While you are there, enjoying those 360 degree views, be sure to order the 5506 Pale Ale, or another great beverage – they have lots of choices and snacks, too. Remember, you will be getting down the mountain on your skis, so take it easy.
While the resort and mountain are the main attractions, those peaks aren’t the only way to have fun. Friends enjoyed the Mountain Warriors, a UTV touring business located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, close to Beech Mountain as well. They enjoyed a guided scenic tour, while driving one of their state of the art Polaris RazorXP 1000 sport 4-seaters. If you’d rather sit back, you can ride with the tour guide. Prepare to be greeted by Lincoln, their official dog mascot.
When it’s time to dine, choose from casual spots to elegant dining. Fred’s Backside Deli offers breakfast and lunch, hot and cold sandwiches, sweets and all sorts of beverages.
Sorrento’s is great for everything from Italian appetizers, to pizzas and pasta specials. The Rigatoni Bolognese is a family recipe and house special. Yum is the word. The family also has The Chef’s Table, with sushi and main plates including Chilean Sea Bass, Faroe Island Salmon, and super steaks. The wine list is wonderful, and with so many selections available by the glass, you and your companions can experiment a little.
Stonewalls is another fine option, with great seafood appetizers, pasta dishes and their famous steaks.
Beech Mountain Resort is popular with skiers and snow lovers from all over the southeast and beyond. (We met skiers from Brazil there.) It’s so much fun and very accessible, with lots of accommodations to suit your preferences. Our family has found the snow conditions often similar to the skiing near Innsbruck, Austria. However, it’s easier to access and so much closer to home. Try it this year. Good times indeed. beechmountainresort.com, 800-438-2093
